VINYL LINER POOL LONG LIFE ENSURED BY PROPER CARE
Vinyl liner pool long life is ensured by proper care. Nearly 70 percent of the residential pools in the U.S. rely on durable, and easy to clean, vinyl liner pools to protect the interior pool surface from environmental elements and manmade conditions.
From sunlight and temperature fluctuation to chemicals and careless cleaning, this surface is exposed to numerous hazards. The most common cause of damage to vinyl liner pools are premature pattern wear due to abrasive cleaning tools and bleaching due to improper chemical balance.
If you are one of the five million homeowners fortunate enough to have a vinyl liner pool, follow these simple tips to lengthen its years of service:
*Read and follow the chemical company’s directions. Many liner problems are a result of misuse of chemicals.
*Only add one chemical at a time.
*Add each dissolved chemical through the skimmer, (EXCEPT FOR CHLORINE SHOCK), for best dispersion into your pool.
*Maintain proper water balance: PH RANGE 7.2-7.6; Total Alkalinity 80-100ppm; Calcium Hardness 200-300ppm. IMPORTANT: PH below 7.0 will cause liner wrinkling.
*Keep free chlorine at 1.5-2.5ppm. If it drifts below 1.5ppm, algae can grow and take hold more easily and may cause staining to your vinyl liner. IMPORTANT: If the chlorine level is consistently higher than 2.5ppm, liner wrinkling will occur.
*Avoid use of abrasive cleaning agents.
*Vacuum your vinyl liner pool with one designed for vinyl liner pools. Many vacuums are made for concrete pools!
*Never use sharp objects in or around a vinyl liner pool. They can and do puncture the liner.
* After chemicals are dispersed, cover your pool when not in use.
*DO NOT DRAIN your pool for any reason without first consulting a pool professional. The older the liner, the greater the risk that it will shrink and not stretch back into its original shape.
*For winter; keep your pool-water up high on the skimmer to help keep the vinyl liner from dry-rot during the winter months. Questions call Rich at: 609-313-0300
