POOL BUILDER DISCUSSES SWIMMING FOR STABILITY
From AARP bulletin of December 2014
Swim for Stability. This pool builder discovered this study while researching beneficial effects of swimming.
Swimming may be the best exercise to lower the risk of falls, a new study suggests. Australian researchers looked at the types of exercise performed by 1,700 men age 70 and older, and compared that with the likelihood of a fall over a four-year period.
Men who swam were 33 percent less likely to fall than those who did other activities such as golfing and calisthenics. This may be because swimming develops strong and stable core muscles, which help with balance, researchers said.
So as this pool builder knew, swimming is great family fun and extremely beneficial to one’s health.
